The aim of the master thesis is to explore poker terminology in Latvian and in consultaion with the industry experts to compile a glossary of terms used in Latvian.
The theoretical part of the thesis covers terminology theory and TK requirements for term formation. Foreign word and slang dictionaries and the available online resources have been studied. Within the practical part of the thesis a survey of 90 poker players has been carried out. The author has attended live poker games and researched PokerStars software in order to record the terms used. The thesis also looks at separate poker terms, slang and jargon. It has been concluded that poker terminology is mainly composed of anglicisms, which poker players do not wish to replace with Latvianised terms.
