The MA thesis examines the subject of professional ethics in interpreting. Its purpose is to identify the main ethical qualities that set apart true professionals in the field of interpreting.
The importance of ethics and a few ethical dilemmas for interpreters are contemplated, as well as the history of both interpreting and ethics is explored.
Ten of the already existing “codes of professional ethics” in different fields of interpreting (conference, medical, legal) are selected and examined to determine the most frequent ethical concepts underlined in them. Table 3.1 is designed to illustrate both the consistency and the sequence of importance of the eleven discovered most important ethical concepts.
The conclusion of the MA thesis presents the findings of the research and summarizes the ethical concepts interpreters should be aware of.
