Bakalaura darba mērķis ir izpētīt, aprakstīt un uzzināt, kā Aleksandra Augstuma slimnīcā ir ārstēts sifiliss laika posmā no 1908. – 1945. gadam. Izmantojot klīniski deskriptīvu metodi, tika analizētas lues I, lues II, lues lat., lues III, kā arī lues cong. lat. pacientu slimības vēstures. Tika aprakstīts pacientu sociāl – demogrāfiskais stāvoklis, uzturēšanās ilgums, rehospitalizācija, ārstēšanas gaita un terapijas iznākums.
Izvirzītā hipotēze, ka pirms antibiotiķu ēras Aleksandra Augstuma slimnīcā sifilisa slimniekus ārstēja atbilstoši jaunākajām Eiropas tendencēm, daļēji apstiprinājās, jo lielākā daļa Aleksandra Augstuma slimnīcas pacientu tika atbilstoši ārstēti, izmantojot arsēna un bismuta preparātus, kā arī malārijas terapiju. Taču vēl 20. gs. sākumā sifilisa ārstēšana saglabājusies bīstama un mokpilna, par ko liecina liels mirstības līmenis – no 50 pacientiem ex. let. kā iznākums 11 sifilisa slimniekiem (22%).
