Abstract

The aim of the research was to prepare a base for rectal dosage form – suppository, that will have qualities closely like an ideal suppository base. The main ingredients used for a base preparation were theobroma oil and anhydrous lanolin. These ingredients were taken in various amounts, to prepare a base, which will melt at temperature 36 – 37°C, and will be solid and homogenous while storage. This rectal dosage form was prepared by fusion method. For this method it is necessary to melt and dissolve all the ingredients to gain homogenous and liquify base, ready to be filled in suppository molds. Conclusion was that the most appropiate base for this rectal dosage form was gain by using 25,00 g distilled water, 20,00 g anhydrous lanolin and 54,25 g theobroma oil, methyl-, propylparaben and NaCl and, after filling in molds, cooled at temperature 2-8°C. Key words: suppository, base, theobroma oil, fusion method
