Ēšanas traucējumi ir potenciāli nāvējošas slimības. Tās piemeklē apmēram vismaz procentu no pasaules populācijas kādā dzīves posmā, un mūsdienu metodes ļauj izārstēt aptuveni pusi no tām.
Mūsdienās liela daļa rietumu sabiedrības cieš no neapmierinātības ar savu ķermeni. Cēlonis šai parādībai nereti ir sociālais aspekts - stereotipi, kas nosaka, ka slaidums ir skaistuma un veiksmes atslēga.
Pēdējo gadu periodā visā pasaulē pieaug ēšanas traucējumu skarto pacientu skaits, tās tiek uzskatītas par „modes slimībām”. Divi biežāk sastopamie un šajā darbā apskatītie traucējumi ir Anorexia Nervosa un Bulimia Nervosa. Ēšanas traucējumu izpausmes ir ļoti daudz un dažādas, taču ir aspekti, kas visiem pacientiem ir kopīgi. Galvenās pazīmes – paciente izvairās no pārtikas uzņemšanas ar mērķi zaudēt svaru. Eating disorders are potentially deadly diseases. These diseases strike at least one percent of the world population at some stage of life, and methods of today let approximately half of those affected to be cured.
Nowadays a large part of the Western society suffers from discontent with one’s body. The cause for this phenomenon is often a social aspect – stereotypes which judge that slimness is the key to beauty and success.
In the period of last years the number of patients affected by eating disorders increases, those are considered to be “fashion diseases”. The two most common disorders described in this paper are Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia Nervosa. There are many and different manifestations of eating disorders however there are aspects common to all patients. The main indication – the patient avoids food with an aim to lose weight.
