Maģistra darbs „Demokrātijas deficīts Eiropas Savienībā: Eiropas Parlamenta gadījums” ir izstrādāts ar mērķi izanalizēt Eiropas Parlamenta lomu demokrātijas deficīta mazināšanā Eiropas Savienībā. Darba pētnieciskais jautājums ir - vai Eiropas Parlamenta deputātu balsojumi atspoguļo to nacionālā elektorāta attieksmi pret konkrēto jautājumu? Darbā ir izvirzītas divas hipotēzes: 1) Jauno ES dalībvalstu EP deputāti ir mazāk atsaucīgi savas valsts iedzīvotāju interesēm nekā veco dalībvalstu EP deputāti; 2) Jauno ES dalībvalstu EP deputātu plenārsēžu balsojumos ir lojālāki savai Eiropas partiju grupai nekā veco ES dalībvalstu EP deputāti. Izvirzītās hipotēzes darbā tiek pārbaudītas veicot septiņu valstu deputātu balsojumu analīzi plenārsēdēs trīs dažādās jomās (vide, enerģētika un veselība), balsojumu rezultātus salīdzinot ar ES dalībvalstu iedzīvotāju interesēm noteiktās jomās. The theme of this maters paper is “Democratic deficit in the European Union: the case of the European Parliament”. The aim of this paper is to analyze the role of the EP in the context of democratic deficit reduction in the EU. Research question is – do votes of the Members of European Parliament reflect attitudes of their national electorate in particular issues?
Paper has two hypotheses: 1) MEPs from the new EU Member States are less responsive to the preferences of their citizens, than MEPs from the old EU member states; 2) MEPs from the new EU Member States are more loyal to their European party group than MEPs from the old EU Member States. To do the research and analyze the responsiveness of the MEPs, seven different Member States and three different policy areas were selected. In order to see what position in different issues people have in the Member States, Special Eurobarometer Surveys were analyzed.
