The objective of Master thesis “Semiotic analysis of advertising photography: assessment of advertising efficiency in „Vogue” magazine by using gaze theory” is to clarify what are the functions, meanings and the impact of the gaze as a part of advertising communication and what is the possibility to analyze it by using the semiotic analysis. The theoretical part deals with the theory of semiotics, advertising and communicative and social aspects of the gaze. Visual content and semiotic analysis and survey were used as research methods. Results of the study point out representation of the gaze as a complex structure: the perception depends on various factors. While respondents didn’t define gaze as one of the most important stimuli for getting their attention, it can be used as a tool for attracting attention and it is a considerable factor for modeling the perception of advertising, even if the viewer may not be aware of it.
Keywords: semiotics, gaze, Gaze theory, attention, advertising.
