Recently interest in Translation Studies has increased considerably in many states. With Latvia’s growing involvement into the international communication, the issues of the translation theory and practice have become topical here as well.
The present diploma paper is aimed at the analysis of the terminology of Translation Studies and the related issues treating them from historical, theoretical and practical aspects. The work includes the overview of the theoretical material on the subject, a comprehensive analysis of revealed problems, and practical approaches to the issue. In order to show the specificity of the terminology used in Translation Studies, a number of the discipline’s terms and their equivalents in Latvian is provided. A glossary of main translation concepts is presented at the end of this paper.
The paper is concluded with the idea that the Latvian terminology for Translation Studies is on its way of developing. Although today every translation specialist uses its own terminology that is created for the need of one or more scientific publications, a tendency to develop short glossaries of translation terms has already appeared in Latvia.
