Personas brīvības ierobežošanu paredz brīvības atņemšanas būtība, taču notiesātās personas, atrodoties brīvības atņemšanas iestādē, nedrīkst pilnībā izolēt no sabiedriskās kārtības un ārpus ieslodzījuma vietas piedāvātajām iespējām. Restrictions on freedom provides the nature of the penalty, however the convicted person being in prison can not be entirely isolated from the public order and offered opportunities outside the prison. The primary purpose of prison must be meaningful prison time organization and resocialization for convicted persons. The public reports of Latvian administration of imprisonment places shows, that there are issues in employment of prisoners. That indicates a failure of resocialization and a lack of employment in prisons. The main purpose of this thesis is to obtain and collect information about the convicted persons rights to work in Latvian prisons, as well as to compare it with other countries’ legal regulation. If the current situation will not change, resocialization of prisoners will be adversely affected and the number of prisoners, who serve a sentence repeatedly, will not decrease.
