The purpose of this study was to find out which brand clothing – international, widely available on supermarkets, or local, not so available on supermarkets – Riga's youth choose to buy. A number of hypotheses were posed where an author checked if Riga's youth are buying international brand clothing more often and if they don't have enough information about local brand clothing.
Quantitative research methods were used and survey was conducted. The aim group was Riga's youth in the age from 18 until 25. The data were analysed with Erving Goffman's dramaturgical theory and rational choice theory.
The results shows that Riga's youth are buying international brand clothes more often. A few of the main reasons of not buying the local brand clothes are the lack of information and not enough places where the people can buy this type of clothing. The other conclusion tells that the level of recognition of international brands are quit high, but local brands are recognised only on few occasions.
