The aim of the Bachelor’s Thesis „Scouts movement in Latvia and its representation in printed media (1990-2015)” is to analyse how the Scout movement is represented in print media in the period from 1990 to 2015 and to estimate the role of Boy scouts during this period.
Two theories – the representation approach and the framing concept are used in the Thesis. The research methods applied are quantitative and qualitative content analysis, framing and its analysis and a semi-structured interview.
The object of the research is the print media in which the Scouting is mentioned. The subject of the research is the representation of the Scouts.
In the research section of the Thesis the author has examined the newspapers „Diena”, „Latvijas Avīze”, „Latvijas Vēstnesis”, etc., the regional newspapers such as „Zemgale” and „Liesma”, as well as the magazines of the related period that are available in the periodicals repository of the National Library of Latvia.
The author has clarified that the representation of the Scouting in the surveyed period has not changed and the information about the organisation has been uniform and it has been related to the information what the Scouts are and description of different scouting events and activities.
