(The Adolescent Attachment Questionnaire (AAQ), West, Rose, Spreng, Sheldon- Keller, &
Adam, 1998), ko Latvijā adaptējušas Bite I., Miltuze A., Sebre S. (2011), - „Cilvēki manā
dzīvē” aptaujas daļa par attiecībām ar labāko draugu (People in My Life (PML), Ridenour,
Greenberg, & Cook, 2006), adaptējusi Sevastjānova L. (2009) un- Iezīmju emocionālā
intelekta aptauja- īsā versija (Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire- Short Form
The aim of the Master Thesis was to explore the correlation between the attachment to
mother, friendship with peers and trait emotional intelligence and are there sex differences in
factors like attachment quality to mother, friendship with peers and trait emotional
intelligence of indicators, and what is the extent to which the results of attachment to mother
can predict friendship with peers.
There were 120 adolescent at the age 13-16, who lives together with their biological
mother, participated in the research. Out of that 60 were boys and 60 were girls.
Following methods were used in the research: Demographic data questioner, The
Adolescent Attachment Questionnaire (West, Rose, Spreng, Sheldon- Keller, & Adam, 1998),
adapted by Bite I., Miltuze A., Sebre S. (2011), - Part of questioner „People in My Life”
regarding relationship with the best friend (Ridenour, Greenberg, & Cook, 2006), adapted by
Sevastjānova L.(2009) and- Trait Emotional Intelligence Questionnaire- Short Form (Pedrites
& Furnham, 2001), adapted by Kalteniece D. (2012).
Results of the research shows that as higher quality is for adolescent secure attachment
to mother, the higher degree of trust, communication, a lower level of estrangement in
relations with best friend of the same gender is observed. No statistically significant negative
relationship with delinquency behavior. The higher the quality of the secure attachment of
adolescent to mother, the higher the trait emotional intelligence - well-being, self-control,
emotionality and sociability.
There is a statistically significant sex differences in the friendship relationship – in trust,
in communication, and in trust emotional intelligence. There are several statistically
significant relationships for the quality of attachment to mother, friendship with same- sex
best friend and trust of emotional intelligence in girls and boys samples. The higher
attachment indicators predicts lower estrangement for boys, higher prosperity for adolescents
and higher sociability for girls.
