The aim of the Bachelor Thesis “The would-be Latvian Television Russian-language channel concept comparison with TV5 and its compliance to audience demand” is to understand the reasons and necessity to create a new public TV channel in Russian language, explore the aims and motivations of the creators of this channel, and to compare the conceptual basis of the proposed channel with the already existing Russian language TV channel „TV5” and to understand how relevant this new channel would be to the demands to its audience.
Theoretical part looks at the functions of television, it’s segmentation, tasks and influences. Products created by television are viewed as saleable goods and the interests and demands of television audience are taken into account as well. Considering current media landscape propaganda and information warfare are explored.
Research portion of this thesis is divided in four parts – qualitative research consists of observation and thematic analysis of narrative. Quantitative research is based on two different methods of polling.
