This research called "The problem of synonymy in French medical terminology and its impact on translation practice towards Latvian" is a study of synonymy in medical translation. It can have specific difficulties and synonymy is one of the most frequent phenomenon that a translator must face in order to produce an adequate text for the aimed public.
Theoretical part of this research is composed of a synthesis on medical terminology and it’s issues, on the one hand, and the problem of synonymy, on the other hand. The theory is based on the works of Cabré, L’Homme, Van-Hoof, Jammal, Rouleau, Lavault-Olléon and others. Whilst, practical part is an analysis of medical terms from instructions of medicine. The analysis consists of three steps – classification of terms, a study of synonymy in French medical terminology and its relevance in translation.
