The aim of the thesis is to explore the power relations between the parties involved in the decision-making process of breech delivery, and what kinds of discourses influence the final decision. The research is based on a misleading notion of the need for a Caesarean section surgery without taking into account that each case is individual. Breech presentation still tends to be regarded as a pathology, which contributes to the power increase of specialists while choosing the way of delivery, promoting medicalization.
The paper deals with theories of medicalization and power relations. The CDA, which include 16 interviews, was used to find out the leading discourses and the power relations were analyzed in deciding the type of maternity. Women lack the information on birth options, as well as the initiative of finding information.
