The actuality of theme is determined by fact, that inadequate nutrition complicates criticallly ill patient treatment. These patients have impaired immune function, delayed wound healing. Malnutrition is one of the most common and one of the most serious process in the body, which is usually peculiar to patients in intensive care unit. Nutrition, that does not meet the requirements of the patient's body reduces the patient's ability to resist disease, as well as poses a higher risk of complications: long stay in the hospital, occurrence of bedsores, increases lethality.
Aim of the study: To analyze and describe the potential risks of malnutrition to patients in intensive care unit.
The research results show that in intensive care unit the risk of malnutrition is high.
The most common care problems in patients with enteral feeding through a tube are: diarrhea due to the rapid administration of the mixture; tube blockage due to the flushing deficit; inflammation of nasal cavity due to prolonged enteral feeding. After summarizing the scientific literature, as the most common problem in nursing care is venipuncture inflammation due to non-compliance of aseptic technique.
The obtained results confirm that the NRS 2002 malnutrition screening test can be easily carried in clinical conditions. The summarized results and conclusions can be applied to the involved respondents in the study. In order to gain approval for parenteral feeding problem existence assessment, broader study within population should be taken.
Keywords: malnutrition, the patient nutrition, NRS screening, intensive therapy, enteral and parenteral feeding, care problems.
