The present Paper ‘’Drama in English Lessons to Increase Students’ Reading Motivation’’ dealt with the problem of motivating students to read extensively. It is important to motivate students to read fiction because extensive reading gives students an opportunity to develop their language skills, to become more confident. Since it was found out with the help of the survey done by the author of the Paper that more than a half of the enquired students in Riga Secondary School No. 60 did not read extensively, the aim of the Diploma Paper was to find out how using drama in classes and after classes can encourage students to read extensively and increase students’ reading motivation. In order to achieve the aim a case study was used as a research method. The hypothesis that drama types used during English lessons improves students’ attitude towards reading fiction has been proved. First of all, the present situation was studied with the help of the questionnaires for the students and the teachers in order to find out the attitude of the students and the teachers to reading fiction and to using drama types at the classes and after classes. Secondly, different drama types were constantly used at the English lessons during the period of the research where the students had to read a lot of dialogues and scripts. Some drama plays were performed on the stage. Thirdly, another questionnaire was given to the 9- grade students to find out how their attitude to extensive reading had changed during the research period. The data of the research showed that the amount of students who stated they liked reading extensively increased after participating in drama activities. Additionally, more students mentioned that their reading skills and pronunciations in English were better due to drama. At the same time, the data showed that there were some students who participated in drama do not read fiction in their free time, and there are some teachers who agreed that drama was a helpful tool to motivate students to read but they do not used it at their lessons because it is time consuming. Therefore, with the help of the data, it was discovered that using drama at the English classes improved students reading motivation and English drama club would be set up in school, because then it would increase students’ interest in drama and motivate them to read extensively.
