The Master’s Thesis “Teachers’ Responsibilities in Implementing Cooperative Learning in English Lessons at Primary School” is written with the aim to explore and compare the experience of primary school English teachers who have implemented cooperative learning in their English lessons. The author focused on the in-depth study of teachers’ responsibilities when implementing cooperative learning and difficulties teachers have faced in their professional practice. The phenomenological research was chosen as the research method. The research dealt with several aspects of experience: teachers’ practice, students’ reaction and feedback, identifying key issues the teachers in Latvia and China faced when implementing cooperative learning. The research sample consisted of twelve English teachers, representing different schools in Latvia and China. The data were collected with in-depth semi-structured interviews. The findings were summarized and compared to identify the pedagogical practice, responsibilities and thoughts of Latvian and Chinese teachers. The research revealed Latvian and Chinese teachers’ experience on implementing cooperative learning, their challenges met at primary school, the methods to avoid or reduce the difficulties. The author of the study concluded that there were many difficulties and challenges that prevented primary school teachers from implementing cooperative learning. Therefore, she offers her recommendations that could be used to promote cooperative learning to more English teachers who might plan to use this method in their lessons in primary school, and contributes to the openness of those teachers who have not used it.
