The regulation of juvenile justice of other countries can be utilized in order to improve the national rules of juvenile criminal liability and the juvenile sanctions system. It is useful to determine, whether the regulation of juvenile criminal liability and juvenile imprisonment in other countries is more effective than the one applied currently in Latvia. The aim of this comparative paper is to unfold, research, analyse and compare the essence of the juvenile sanction systems as well as the normative regulation of juvenile imprisonment of four countries: Latvia, Austria, The Netherlands and Sweden. Several suggestions with the aim of improving and making the regulation of Latvia less repressive have been drafted.
