The main problem of the research in the Bachelor thesis „Narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances discourse in Hollywood films: construction of reality for youths” is how the narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances that are portrayed in Hollywood films can affect youths reality. The author of this work wants to concentrate on how Hollywood films can affect its audience’s reality and views, and also look for narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances in the content of the chosen films, to determine how often does the audience come in contact with the content and is it capable of affecting the audience. This will be done by using quantitative content analysis, semiotic analysis and focus groups. The theoretical part shows the theoretical understanding about what is popular culture and what is its role in influencing the youth. Also the author will take a closer look at youth’s psychology, what is the power of media and how the media constructs our reality, also the author will take a closer look at media effects and media discourse, to better understand how it works. The aim of the Bachelor thesis is, first of all, to find out whether there is narcotic drug and psychotropic substance content in Hollywood films and second of all, if the content of these particular films affects the audience (youth). The structure of the work consists of three parts - theoretical, methodological and empirical parts - where the author explains the main theme and the research problem.
