Increasing attention is being paid to renewable energy development in national energy policy planning. Also one of the main priorities of the European Union's energy policy is the promotion of the usage of renewable energy. According to the Directive 2009/28/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council on the promotion of the use of energy from renewable sources Latvia has a mandatory target of 40% of the consumed energy to be covered up by renewable energy until 2020. To reach this target it is necessary to develop efficient as well as sustainable policy for renewable energy development. The bachelor paper „Renewable energy policy in Latvia” has been developed with the aim to evaluate the policy of renewable energy in Latvia and develop recommendations for further policy improvements. The energy policy and theoretical aspects of renewable energy are inspected and information about policy of renewable energy sector of the European Union and Latvia is collected from the literature and statistical analysis to achieve the goal. The evaluation of renewable energy policy of Latvia is done and recommendations are developed based on interviews of experts and the information collected in the paper. The paper consists of 89 pages, 5 tables, 6 figures and 11 appendixes. It is based on 153 sources of information.
