Noskaidrots, ka gruntsūdens līmenis ietekmē augu sabiedrību veidošanos – mitrākās vietās, kur gruntsūdens līmenis svārstās no 0-30 centimetriem, dominē grīšļu sabiedrības, savukārt graudzāļu sabiedrības labprātāk attīstās mēreni mitrās vietās, kur gruntsūdens līmenis svārstās ap viena metra atzīmi. To evaluate the influence of groundwater on natural grassland vegetation, a representative territory was established in the floodplain of Aiviekste. 10 groundwater level monitoring holes were set up in the territory, and 39 vegetation plots were described using the Braun-Blanquet method. Groundwater level monitoring was carried out from July of 2016 until April of 2017. Five plant communities were distinguished in the territory, of which two were fen communities, one was a cereal community and two – transitional communities. The author determines that groundwater level has an effect on plant community formation – in wetter places, where the groundwater level fluctuates between 0-30 centimetres, fen communities are dominant, while cereal communities prefer moderately wet areas, where groundwater levels fluctuate around the one metre mark.
