This master thesis examines glacial lakes in the Mežole Hilly area, including the distribution, topographic position, formation, and glaciolacustrine sediments. The formation of the glacial lakes in the research area started during the Late Weichselian deglaciation, specifically the Gulbene deglaciation phase. Geological maps of the region and results of previous studies have been widely used in data analysis. The research is based on original data that was obtained by setting up drill-holes, inspecting outcrops, as well as analysing different types and scales of cartographic material. The results broaden the notion of the distribution of glacial lakes in the Mežole Hilly area, re-interpreting their previously determined borders, as well as indicating the distribution of areas that have not yet been recognised. LiDAR digital terrain model and acquired research data was used to develop a geological map of quaternary deposits in the area.
