Alpha-glycosidase inhibitors are oral antidiabetic agents used to treat type 2 diabetes, to prevent or slow down digestion of carbohydrates (such as starch and sugar). Alpha-glucosidase inhibitors are also found among natural substances. The aim of the study: to investigate the effect of extracts of blueberries, highbush blueberries, large cranberries, cranberries and lingonberry on the activity of alpha glycosidase in vitro. In the study, the alpha-glucosidase inhibitory activity of the berry extracts has been studied in the extract solutions in water and methanol. The results show that all of these berry extracts have an inhibitory effect on alpha-glucosidase activity, but in the case of extract solutions in water, it is almost 10 times weaker than that of methanol. From the extract solutions in methanol, the highest alpha glycosidase inhibition ability is found for lingonberry extract with an IC50 of 0.00016 mg / ml. We conclude that berries are recommended for use in diet of diabetic patients.
