The topic of present Bachelor paper is Adherence to therapy of chronic nonhealing wound patient treatment and care. The topicality of the research is justified with significant number of patients with this type of disease in Latvia and worldwide. Within the developed world approximately 1,5% of the total population at least once per life had problematic wound on the skin. Recently this number has increasing tendency, along with increase of average age of population. The aim of the research is to identify patient adherence to therapy in disease treatment and care. In order to achieve the aim, following tasks have been identified: to analyse the literature regarding chronic nonhealing wounds and patient adherence to therapy, to assess application of the K. Roy's theory of adaptation in the research work, to carry out patient interviews, to gather and analyse the results of the interview. A research question has been developed: What is the adherence to therapy of the chronic nonhealing wound patient treatment and care? The research instrument – interview has been used within the research. A quantitative research method is applied. The results obtained within the research reveal considerably low adherence to therapy in disease treatment and care, as most of the patients do not comply with recommendations and adherence of health care personnel, undertake improper care of the wounds, do not devote sufficient time for physical activities and do not adhere healthy lifestyle.
