Kalambūri Terija Pračeta romānā „Sargi! Sargi!” (Guards! Guards!)

Abstract

Kalambūrs ir stilistiskās izteiksmes līdzeklis, kuru izmanto humora nolūkos, un tādējādi pētīta gan literatūrā, gan lingvistikā. Turklāt Terijs Pračets ir pazīstams ar humora un plašu kalambūru pielietojumu savos romānos. Tādēļ šī pētījuma mērķis ir izanalizēt kalambūrus vienā no Pračeta romāniem – „Sargi! Sargi!”. Pētījuma metodes rezultātu iegūšanai ir literatūras apskats, lai iegūtu informāciju par kalambūru klasifikāciju pēc to veidiem un kalambūru funkcijas, kā arī tekstu analīze romāna „Sargi! Sargi!” pētīšanai. Rezultāti parāda, ka no sešpadsmit romānā atrastajiem kalambūra veidiem, visbiežāk lietoti duālā realizācija, substitūcija, homofoni, homonīmi un portmanteau. Turpretim vismazāk izmantotie veidi ir etimoloģiskie kalambūri un imitācijas frāzes. Saistībā ar kalambūru funkcijām, tekstā visvairāk izmantotā bija komunikatīvā funkcija, kā arī divu nozīmju funkcija, kura bieži savienota ar tēlu raksturojošo funkciju.

Pun is a stylistic device used to achieve a humorous effect, and as such much researched both in literature and linguistics. In his turn, Terry Pratchett is widely known for his humorous novels and extensive use of puns. Thus, the purpose of this research is to analyse puns in one of Pratchett’s novels – “Guards! Guards!”. The research methods used to obtain the result are literature review to gather information on classification of types of puns and their function, as well as textual analysis of the novel “Guards! Guards!”. The results indicate that from sixteen types of puns found in the novel, the most used are dual actualization, substitution, homophones, homonyms and portmanteaux, and the least used are etymological puns and mimetic phrases. Concerning their function in the novel, most puns often perform the communicative function as well as two meaning function, the latter often in correlation with the function of characterization.
