The results indicate that from sixteen types of puns found in the novel, the most used are dual actualization, substitution, homophones, homonyms and portmanteaux, and the least used are etymological puns and mimetic phrases. Concerning their function in the novel, most puns often perform the communicative function as well as two meaning function, the latter often in correlation with the function of characterization.
