Šī darba ietvaros tiek izstrādāts rīka OWLGrEd modulis, kas novērtē ontoloģijas attēlojuma kvalitāti skaitliskā formā un identificēti potenciāli rīka papildinājumi, kas uzlabos attēlojuma uztveramību. Ontoloģiju izmantošana kļūst arvien populārāka, bet to tekstuālais pieraksta veids, praktisku mērķu sasniegšanai, cilvēkiem ir neparocīgs. Šī iemesla dēļ ir pieejami vairāki rīki, kas ontoloģijas attēlo vizuāli. Vairāki rīki, tajā skaitā rīks OWLGrEd, paredz iespēju lietotājam brīvi mainīt attēlojumu, rezultātā iegūstot vairākus potenciālus vienas ontoloģijas attēlojumus. Attēlojuma uzdevums ir būt pēc iespējas saprotamākam, tāpēc ir nepieciešamas lietotājus nodrošināt ar iespēju izvelēties kvalitatīvāko ontoloģijas attēlojumu. The aim of the master’s Thesis “Evaluation of ontology visual depiction” is to develop a module for ontology editor OWLGrEd, that provides means to evaluate ontology visual depiction in a numerical form, and to identify potential addition for OWLGrEd editor that can improve quality of ontology visualization. The use of ontology is becoming more and more popular, but in many cases, it is impractical for humans to use textual representation of ontology. For this reason, there are several tools available that display ontology visually. Many of the tools, including OWLGrEd, allow the user to change the visual depiction freely, resulting in potentially many different depictions of the same ontology. Some of the depictions will be easier to understand than others and, since the goal of visual depiction is to be user friendly, it is important to provide users with means of choosing the most user-friendly depiction.
