Each year more and more people get diagnosed with melanoma. One of the reasons is the reduction of the ozone layer, which leads to more intense ultraviolet radiation on the Earth surface. The aim of the study is to find out the effects of UV radiation and filters on humans, respondents' sunbathing and sunscreen usage habits, the relationship between the percentage of UV filters and the SPF value, the participants skin response on a developed sunscreen. The empirical part provides analysis of respondent’s answers to survey, SPF simulations, sunscreen development and a patch test. It has been concluded that sunscreens are used incorrectly, increasing the amount of filter in the sunscreen, the SPF value increases, but the protection against UV radiation does not increase significantly. Key words: UV radiation, skin cancer, UV filters, sunscreen.
