Cardiovascular diseases are leading cause of death in the world and in Latvia. (WHO., 2017.). It is very important to diagnose cardiovascular diseases and start an early prevention or treatment for cardiovascular disease, so it doesn’t develop. Primary care specialist has an important role in the examination and education of cardiovascular patients, so that patients could evaluate their health conditions, know their risk factors and take necessary preventive measures in the development of cardiovascular diseases. It is important to recognize potential cardiovascular patients as early as possible. The aim of this research is to investigate a role of primary care specialist in educating of patient’s health and providing routine examinations. In the research was identified patient’s knowledge of their health and what preventive measures respondents are following. There was found an association between patients who were educated by their primary care specialists and what preventive measures they followed. There is also a general review of risk factors for cardiovascular patients, as well as the necessary preventive measures and the role of primary care specialist. The study identified the role of primary care specialist in determining cholesterol for respondents, which is a major risk factor for cardiovascular disease. The results showed a statistically significant correlation between the number of cholesterol-responsive respondents and the recommendations of primary care specialist, so with confidence I can say, that the primary care specialist has an important role in early evualation of this risk factor. Cooperation between the primary care specialist and the patient is important for successful diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases and also patients willingness to take the necessary actions of cardiovascular diseases.
