Nowadays high cholesterol is a problem that is affecting more and more people. Hypercholesterolemia can cause atherosclerosis, which is the pathological basis for the development of most cardiovascular diseases, including myocardial infarction, stroke and peripheral artery disease. Formation of atherosclerotic lesions is a chronic process characterized by excessive cholesterol deposits in the artery walls. Changes in lifestyle are essential to reduce hyperlipidemia, but dietary supplements containing the active compound monacolin K are also widely used. The aim of this study is to research whether cholesterol-lowering dietary supplements have a scientific justification. Questionnaires were used to determine the habits of society when choosing dietary supplements to reduce hyperlipidemia. From the available dietary supplements for the reduction of hyperlipidemia, “Redasin Strong”, “Mocard Silvanols”, “Aterin”, “Arterin” and “Aterolip” have been reviewed in this study. In the course of this study, it was found that “Redasin Strong” is the most cost-effective and therapeutically most beneficial.
