The aim of this study was to determine the effects of antidiabetic drug metformin on the Alzheimer's disease (AD) streptozotocin (STZ) model rats using the 3-chamber sociability test. The results show that metformin at both doses of 75 mg/kg and 100 mg/kg significantly improved the social interest and short-term memory of AD model rats. The obtained data suggest that metformin is able to improve the interest in unfamiliar animals and encourage social contact in AD STZ model rats. However, further research is needed to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms of the sociability effects of metformin.
