Vaccinium spp. ogas un to produkti tiek aktīvi pētīti pēdējo 10 gadu laikā. Tiem ir pierādīts kognīciju uzlabojošs efekts in vivo. Iespējams, ka ogu ekstraktu in vivo kognīcijas uzlabošanu varētu skaidrot ar AchE inhibēšanu. Vaccinium spp. berries and their products are actively studied over the last 10 years. They have been shown to improve cognition in vivo. Berry pomace content and effects of the active substances on the organism have been also investigated. We studied the effects of bilberry, blueberry, American cranberry, bog cranberry and lingonberry pomace extracts on AChE activity in vitro as well as interaction with AChE inhibitors - ipidacrine, donepezil and neostigmine. AChE activity was measured by spectroscopic Ellman method. The data show that all extracts inhibit AChE in a concentration-dependent manner. Cranberry, bog cranberry, blueberry and lingonberry extracts potentiate AChE inhibitors, but bilberry extract potentiates only the neostigmine effect whereas donepezil and ipidakrine even reduce. The in vivo improvement of cognition by berry extracts may be explained by AChE inhibition.
