S. aureus is cause for a number of diseases, resulting in infection of various tissues of the body and the associated diseases can be both mild and very severe and fatal. More recently, it was noted that bacterial biofilms can reduce healing of skin wounds and reduce the effectiveness of topical antibacterial agents in treating or tending infected skin wounds. Early detection of biofilms in wounds is essential for the successful treatment of chronic wounds. Aim of the study: Determine the antibacterial resistance of the biofilm-forming Staphylococcus aureus isolates and confirm the presence of the resistance gene mecA in these isolates Work tasks: The antimicrobial susceptibility of staphylococci (n = 48) identified by the laboratory will be tested using Disk Diffusion Test and mecA gene detection using PCR as well as biofilm formation capability using the microtiter plate method. Results were collected and compiled in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) of the Center of Tuberculosis and Lung Diseases of Riga East Clinical University Hospital “SIA RAKUS”.
