Kārlis Egle kā cittautu daiļliteratūras tulkotājs

Abstract

Maģistra darba temats ir “Kārlis Egle kā cittautu daiļliteratūras tulkotājs”. Kārlis Egle (1887–1974) plašāk pazīstams kā literatūrvēsturnieks, ilggadējs Misiņa bibliotēkas vadītājs (1925–1952), izcils bibliogrāfs, Latvijas Valsts universitātes Filoloģijas fakultātes Bibliotēku zinātņu katedras (vēlāk nodaļas) dibinātājs un vadītājs (1946–1952), taču viņa kā tulkotāja veikums līdz šim nav plašāk apzināts un ir minimāli kritiski vērtēts. Maģistra darbā, iepazīstoties ar K. Egles “Dienu piezīmēm” un rokrakstu fonda materiāliem, ir apzināts K. Egles tulkojumu masīvs, atklāta K. Egles vieta sava laika cittautu daiļliteratūras tulkotāju vidū, parādīts, kā K. Egles tulkojumi iekļaujas sava laika literatūras kopainā un atklāta K. Egles kā tulkotāja individuālā savdabība. Pētījuma gaitā ir apstiprinājusies hipotēze, ka Kārlim Eglem vienlīdz svarīga ir pasaules literatūras klasikas un laikmetīgo autoru tulkošana

The topic of the masters thesis is “Karlis Egle as a translator of literary works of other nation”. Karlis Egle (1887–1974) is more widely known as a literary historian, a longstanding director of Misina library (1925–1952), an excellent bibliographer, a founder and director of the Library Science academic chair (later known as Department) of the Faculty of Philology of the University of Latvia (1946–1952), but his translation work hasn’t been widely examined and has been marginally critically evaluated until now. After getting acquainted with the “Diary notes” and the materials of the manuscript collection of K. Egle, the total amount of translation work carried out by K. Egle has been examined and the position of K. Egle among his contemporary fiction translators has been discovered in this master’s thesis. This research also reveals how the translations of K. Egle fit within the framework of his contemporary fiction and examines the individual peculiarity of K. Egle as a translator. In the course of the research the hypothesis has been confirmed, stating that the translation of world literature classics and that of contemporary authors were of equal importance to Karlis Egle.
