Polifenoliem ir labvēlīga ietekme uz cilvēka organismu. Tiem ir tādas funkcijas kā asinsrites uzlabošana, asinsvadu elastības uzturēšana, hronisku iekaisumu reakcijas mazināšana, brīvo radikāļu neitralizēšana, šūnu novecošanās aizkavēšana un daudzas citas. Daudzi no polifenolu izraisītiem veselības ieguvumiem var būt saistīti ar to antioksidantu lomu. Polyphenols have a beneficial effect on the human body. They have functions such as improving the blood circulation, maintaining the elasticity of blood vessels, reducing the reaction of chronic inflammation, neutralizing free radicals, inhibiting cellular aging and many more. Many of the health benefits of polyphenols may be related to their antioxidant role. A reference equivalent approach has been introduced to measure total polyphenols in berry preparations. In this work the total amount of polyphenols was measured in five Vaccinium spp. berry extracts by the Folin - Chicolto method and calculated in gallic acid, quercetin and rutin equivalents per mg extract. The highest amount is obtained in gallic acid equivalents.
