In the last 10 years, the world has seen a proliferation of self-service cognitive services in the media. The observation is attributable to the topicality of various spiritual activities and practices, which can be seen in advertising offers in almost all types of media as well as in the content of the media itself. Due to the growing interest in self-improvement topics, Latvian journalism is undergoing some changes - the diversity of esoteric periodicals is expanding. Audience theories tell us that it is the audience who determines what they want to see and take from the media and the media accordingly rushes to meet their needs. The author decides to study the motivation of the readers of the Latvian esoteric magazine “Citādā Pasaule” (“Another World”), “Mistērija” (“Mystery”) and “Zintnieks” (“Mage”) to know motivation of useing the media type, as well as to determine the attitude and habits. The study consists of two parts: analysis of the contents of esoteric magazines, where the content of the publications is investigated by quantitative content analysis, but the author of the thesis seeks answers to the research questions in the focus group interview.
