Anotācija
Promocijas darbs Alvja Hermaņa režija: tradīcijas un novatorisms veltīts ievērojamā mūsdienu latviešu režisora Alvja Hermaņa (1965) daiļrades analīzei, pētot teātra tradīciju un režisora jaunrades specifiskās attiecības – izmantotos tehniskos paņēmienus, režijas metodes veidošanos, teātra izpratni.
A.Hermaņa izrādes plaši aprakstītas recenzijās, tomēr ne Latvijā, ne pasaulē viņa daiļrade kā kopums līdz šim nav sistemātiski pētīta.

The doctoral thesis Work of Alvis Hermanis: traditions and innovations deals with the work of contemporary Latvian theatre director Alvis Hermanis (1965), paying a specific attention to theatre traditions he utilises in creating a unique method of directing.
Performances by Hermanis have been a subject of numerous theatre reviews both in Latvia and Europe, however until now his work has not been analysed systematically. The doctoral thesis approaches the corpus of Hermanis’ work as a whole taking in account his performances both in Latvia and Europe. The research also concentrates on technical elements director uses, their functionality and causation. The research is conducted by using semiotics and phenomenology which has allowed to analyse both technological aspects of a performance and reception of a show. The research identifies the traditions Hermanis works with and innovation in his work, as well as the cultural and social context Hermanis’ performances exist in. For the first time Hermanis work is analysed in the context of theatre theories and practise of Konstantin Stanislavsky, Bertolt Brecht and Antonin Artaud.
