This bachlors thesis examines the functioning of rocky biotopes and the ecological condition of the protected marine area “Nida-Pirkone” located on the west coast of Latvia. Macrobenthos samples and underwater footage were collected to determine the function and ecological status of the biotopes. Depending on depth, the variability and prevalence of macrobenthic species can be observed. The study assessed the coverage of the benthos with the solid substrate in the study area. A relationship has been established between the diversity of macrobenthic species, depending on substrate, and mutual symbiosis of the species has been studied. The obtained data were compared with LHEI data from 2006.
