The paper provides a general overview of the historical use of tattoos, their artistic nature and the development of public opinion on tattoos in general, leading to increasing social awareness of potential protection of tattoos in the context of copyright. Following a theory study and conclusions on the possibilities for protecting tattoos, the work deals with the usage of the author's personal and property rights and the problems arising from the usage of previously mentioned rights where the author's creative activity results in a tattoo, as well as the possibilities for protecting tattoos. The aim of the study is to find out whether tattoos can be considered as objects of copyright and be protected by copyright, as well as what the regulatory framework for the protection of such copyright objects might be. As part of the work, the author makes a number of proposals to improve the regulatory framework, both in terms of the protection of tattoos and on other issues that could potentially be improved in terms of the protection of other works created by creative activities.
