Studentu migrācija un studentifikācijas izpausmes Jelgavā

Abstract

Studentu mobilitāte ir nozīmīgs pētījuma virziens migrācijas literatūrā. Studenti ģeogrāfiski ir ļoti mobila iedzīvotāju grupa visā pasaulē. Pārmaiņas, kas saistītas ar studentu koncentrāciju universitātes pilsētās, raksturo studentifikācijas process. Tam tiek pievērsta pastiprināta uzmanība mobilitātes pētījumos, un tas ir nozīmīgs izpētes virziens pilsētu ģeogrāfijā. Latvijas Lauksaimniecības universitāte (LLU) ar daudzveidīgo studiju programmu piedāvājumu un ģeogrāfisko novietojumu piesaista studējošos no citiem reģioniem. Darba mērķis ir izvērtēt studentu migrācijas un studentifikācijas iezīmes Jelgavā. Darba teorētiskajās nodaļās tiek aplūkota ārvalstu un iekšzemes studentu migrācija Latvijā, kā arī raksturots studentifikācijas process un tā izpausmes. Tāpat tiek analizētas studiju iespējas Jelgavā, kā arī studējošo skaita dinamika LLU. Turpmāk nodaļās apkopoti studentu migrācijas analīzes rezultāti un augstskolas izvēles motivācija, kā arī intervēto LLU studentu iekļaušanās un dzīve Jelgavā. Darbā vērtētas arī studentifikācijas procesu iezīmes Jelgavā. Kopumā rezultāti liecina, ka Jelgavā, kuru mēdz dēvēt par studentu pilsētu, studentifikācijas iezīmes vēl nav izteiktas kā citās universitāšu pilsētās.

Student mobility is an important research area in migration literature. Students are a very mobile group all over the world. Changes related to the concentration of students in university cities are characterized by the studentification process. It has received particular attention in mobility research and is an important research area in urban geography. Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies (LLU) with its offer of diverse study programs and geographical location attracts students from other regions. The aim of the thesis “Geographies of students’ migration and studentification in Jelgava city” is to evaluate the features of student migration and studentification in Jelgava. The theoretical chapters of the thesis focuses on the migration of foreign and domestic students in Latvia, as well as on the characteristics of studentification process and its manifestations. Study opportunities in Jelgava are also analysed, as well as the dynamics of the number of students at LLU. The following sections summarize the results of the analysis of student migration and the motivation for choosing a higher education institution, as well as the inclusion and life of the interviewed LLU students in Jelgava. Features of studentification process in Jelgava were also evaluated. In general, the results show that in Jelgava, which is often referred to as the city of students, the features of studentification are not as pronounced in other university cities.
