The probation service has a huge impact and role in reducing crime and recidivism, in supervising and rehabilitating offenders, and in providing a safer society. In Latvia, the State Probation Service has a supervisory function over persons against whom criminal proceedings have been terminated by conditionally releasing them from criminal liability; over persons who have been conditionally sentenced or conditionally released before term from prisons; over persons for whom supervision has been determined as the additional punishment and has been performing the supervisory function starting from January 1, 2006. The aim of the bachelor's thesis is to study the current situation regarding the tools used in the supervision process and the resources involved in ensuring the rehabilitation of probation clients and by interviewing probation specialists, to get an idea of the real situation and possible improvements and development directions. To achieve the aim of the bachelor's thesis, the following tasks have been set – to study the meaning and purpose of the State Probation Service supervision function, to study the concept of rehabilitation, to look at the currently used tools and resources and their role in the supervision process, to study the regulatory framework of the foreign probation supervision function.
