Speciālā lietojuma valoda (SLV) pēta konkrētas profesionālās jomas valodu, tādēļ attiecīgajās jomās profesiju pārstāvji to izmanto kā darbarīku. Language for specific purposes (LSP) studies the language of a particular professional field, thus professionals use LSP as a tool in their respective fields. High-demand fields, which require knowledge of LSP, are law and technology. In the said occupations, translation of legal and technical texts is highly necessary due to the comprehensiveness and internationality of the fields. For this reason, the present thesis aims to identify the peculiarities of LSP text translation and define the differences of legal and technical translations throughout a qualitative analysis of translated legal and technical texts, from English to Latvian. A research question was proposed to study the peculiarities of LSP text translation and to identify the differences between the legal and technical translations from English into Latvian. The literature analysis shows that the purpose of the target text, text type, and genre are to be considered in LSP text translation. The research indicates that even though both documents’ purpose is to inform and the text type is informative, the translators have applied different translation strategies.
