As medicines are both exported and imported, there is a great demand for translations of the patient information leaflets, as the instructions must be in the language of the country where the medicinal product is marketed. The aim of this Master’s thesis is to study the translation strategies of the package leaflets and to identify the problems the translator may encounter in the translation process. In order to achieve this goal, the author has looked at the translation theory, Language for Specific Purposes and its specific features, paying particular attention to medical texts. In the practical part of the research, an analysis of the translations of the patient information leaflets was carried out, highlighting the used strategies and the problem areas, as well as some recommendations for translation of the package leaflets. It was concluded that the most widely used strategies for translating the patient information leaflets are literal translation and equivalence. The main problems in the translation process are related to terminology, the use of complex words in the source text and the influence of source language on translations.
