Author of the bachelor's work: University of Latvia, pedagogy, psychology and arts faculty, professional bachelor's degree program “Pre-School and Primary School Teacher”, 5-course student Ksenija Šikalova. The topic of this bachelor's thesis is "Development of cognitive activity for 5-6 year old children". The topicality of the work is linked to the current educational processes related to the competencies approach at all stages of education. During her internship in the pedagogical field, the author has observed that cognitive activity promoted at the earliest possible age ensures stable learning and cognitive achievements. The aim of the research is to determine the preconditions of cognitive activity in the pedagogical process. The work is split in 2 sections - theoretical and practical. In the theoretical part, the author analyzed the scientific articles and opinions of various researchers on cognitive activity, the ways how and when it should be developed and what can hinder the development of cognitive activity. In the process of writing the theoretical part, the criteria, indicators and stages of cognitive activity were summarized, on which the practical part of the work was based. In the practical part, the author studied the students of her group in the period from the autumn of 2019 to the autumn of 2020. Pedagogical observations and parents' views were compared. During the research, children were offered various methods for the development of cognitive activity - games, experiments, excursions, playing. This chapter describes pedagogical observations, a survey of parents, a comparison of observations, and a summary of the results. At the end of the study, mostly positive results were observed in the development of cognitive activity. It has been observed that children have become more curious, more confident and more active in play, research and action, as well as perceiving mistakes as part of a successful learning process. In addition, it has been observed that children have begun to encourage each other. Keywords: COGNITIVE ACTIVITY, CURIOSITY, DEVELOPMENT, ACTIVITY, COGNITIVE PROCESSES.
