The topic of the bachelor's thesis is "The effect of disinfectants and personal protective equipment on the well-being of nurses in the surgical department". Due to the increasing concentration of disinfectants and the increasing use of personal protective equipment, their use is intended to protect the health of nurses and other medical staff and patients, but these products can also affect nurses' well-being, both physical and psycho-emotional, therefore the aim of the bachelor's thesis was to find out the effect that disinfectants and personal protective equipment have on nurses' well-being in the surgical department. At the beginning of the research project, a research question was also raised: how do disinfectants and personal protective equipment affect the nurses' well-being in the department of surgery? In order to obtain full-fledged data, the author has chosen to conduct research with a qualitative research method, its tool - interview questions. The study involves 8 respondents - all nurses from a specific hospital, practicing in the department of surgery, who often use disinfectants and personal protective equipment during their work. The bachelor's thesis consists of a theoretical and a practical part. The theoretical part of the work analyzes information about Callista Roy's theory of nursing, the concept of wellbeing and its meaning in the workplace, the specifics of the work of a surgical department nurse, the characteristics of disinfectants and personal protective equipment and their impact on the human body. The results of the practical part of the study reveal that disinfectants and personal protective equipment have a negative effect on the well-being of nurses practicing in the surgery department - both physical and psycho-emotional, such as allergic reactions, damage to the skin, eye and respiratory irritation, as well as discomfort, drowsiness and fatigue. It is concluded that nurses feel the effects of these implements both during and outside of work. Keywords: disinfectants, personal protective equipment, well-being, nurse, department of surgery.
