Nowadays, communication systems have become an essential part of our daily lives, research and other fields. The development of these kinds of systems requires an abundance of time and financial resources and because of this, it is necssary to make design decisions before implementing such systems. The bachelors’ thesis “Communication modeling using GNU Octave” is composed of a theoretical section, where communication systems, signals, chanel properties and signal noise and its sources are examined, and a practical section, in which a communications model is implemented using the GNU Octave programming language. The developed model was used to determine the bit error ratio for 7 different modulation methods at different signal to noise ratios, simulating added AWGN and Rayleigh distributed noise chanels. The results are compared and evaluated with other research papers related to the topic.
