Tika izmantota Attiecību intimitātes novērtējuma aptauja (PAIR- Personal Assessment of Intimacy Relationships: Schaefer & Olson, 1981). Intimacy, as defined by Robert Sternberg (1986), is the experience of strong feelings: closeness and connection with one's partner. Psychological intimacy is the result of a process of interaction between partners that involves a strong and powerfully pleasurable interpersonal bond (Baumeister & Leary, 1995). It is therefore worthwhile for people in romantic relationships to know how intimacy 'works', because it is what determines how long, pleasant, warm and high quality the relationship will be. Intimacy can be both verbal and non-verbal - physical. There are several benefits of intimacy: the ability to trust your partner, to share your experiences, not to be afraid of being misunderstood, judged or insulted, physical closeness, support, building shared memories. The current study investigated the relationship between intimacy and relationship longevity in women and men. The participants were 106 people in a partnership. The sample consisted of 53 women and 53 men, 50% and 50% respectively. The female sample consists of respondents aged between 18 and 48 years. The male sample consists of respondents aged between 18 and 44. The Personal Assessment of Intimacy Relationships (PAIR: Schaefer & Olson, 1981) was used. The responses given by the female respondents indicate that the longer the duration of the relationship, the higher the scores for emotional, sexual, intelectual, entertainment intimacy and conventionality. According to the male responses, the longer the relationship, the higher the social intimacy was valued.
