dc.description.abstract | The aim of this study is to research whether there is a correlation between the quality of a couple's romantic relationship and parental stress after the birth of their first child and to answer the questions - Is there a correlation between relationship quality and parental stress? Do mothers and fathers differ in their assessment of relationship quality after the birth of their first child? Do parenting stress scores differ between mothers and fathers? The study involved 60 parents - 30 mothers, 30 fathers, aged between 18 and 39 years, with an average age of 27.3 years for mothers and 29.7 years for fathers. All respondents had one child under the age of 3, the average age of children was 2.6 years. 51.7% of respondents were single, 48.3% married. The study is non-experimental, but rather correlational descriptive. The two surveys used in the study were the Perceived Relationship Quality Components Inventory (PRQC) Fletcher, Simpson, & Thomas, 2006 and the Parenting Stress Index (Abidin, 1995, Parenting Stress Index, Third Edition: Professional Manual). The results show that all relationship quality components are statistically significantly negatively correlated with the total parenting stress index, and there are no statistically significant differences in scores on any of the relationship quality and parenting stress scales across gender groups.
