Jauniešu daiļliteratūra ekstensīvās lasīšanas veicināšanai angļu valodas stundās vidusskolas skolēniem

Abstract

Angļu valodas stundas nebūtu iedomājamas bez lasīšanas, jo noteikta daļa no angļu valodas grāmatās atrodamajiem uzdevumiem ir saistīti ar tekstu, kurā atrodamas atbildes uz uzdotajiem jautājumiem. Svarīgi izprast, vai skolēniem interesē šajos tekstos atklātais. Ir zināms, ka mūsdienu jaunieši dažādu iemeslu dēļ maz lasa, vai dažreiz pat brīvajā laikā nepavada ne minūti lasot. Te var uzdot dažādus jautājumus, tomēr, vērtīgāk būtu tam meklēt risinājumus un skolēnus iedvesmot brīvajā laikā, atpūtas brīžos sēdēt ar grāmatu klēpī. Šis diplomdarbs ir rezultāts pētījumam, kas tika veikts lai saprastu kā veicināt ekstensīvo lasīšanu izmantojot jauniešu daiļliteratūru 11. klases angļu valodas stundās. Gadījuma izpētē autore izstrādāja aptauju, kurā tika uzzināts, ar kādiem jauniešu daiļliteratūras darbiem skolēni labprāt iepazītos stundu laikā un kādus uzdevumus pēc lasīšanas viņi vēlētos veikt, kā arī tika noskaidroti skolēnu ikdienas lasīšanas paradumi. Šī informācija tika pielietota, lai praktiski realizētu ekstensīvās lasīšanas stundas. Stundu laikā skolēni tika aicināti sniegt atgriezenisko saiti, rakstot gan to uz mazām lapiņām, gan tiešsaistē. Stundu beigās tika ievāktas arī skolēnu atbildes par uzdevumiem pēc lasīšanas un stundas darba rakstiskie pierādījumi. Tika konstatēts, ka angļu valodas stundās, pielietojot ekstensīvo lasīšanu un izmantojot jauniešu daiļliteratūru, skolēni jūtas atvērtāki lasīt un izbaudīt lasīšanas procesu. Pateicoties skolēnu atgriezeniskajai saitei un paveiktajiem stundas uzdevumiem, tika secināts, ka jauniešu daiļliteratūras ekstensīvā lasīšana angļu valodas stundās paver jaunas iespējas ne tikai mācību procesa dažādošanai, bet arī skolēnu ārpus skolas interesēm.

English lessons would not be conceivable without reading, as some of the tasks in English Students’ Books are related to the text that provides answers to the questions asked. It is important to understand whether students are interested in what is revealed in these texts. It is known that today young people do not read much for various reasons, or sometimes do not even spend a minute reading in their free time. Various questions can be asked, however, it would be more valuable to look for solutions and inspire students in their free time, to sit with a book on their lap. This Diploma Paper is the result of a study that was conducted to understand how to use young adult novels to promote extensive reading in Grade 11 English lessons. In the case study, the author created a questionnaire in which students could decide what young adult novels they would like to read during the lessons and what reading activities they would like to do. In the questionnaire students’ reading habits were explored. This information was used to conduct lessons with extensive reading. During the lessons, students were asked to provide feedback both by writing it on small pieces of papers and online. At the end of the lessons, the students’ answers to the after-reading tasks were also collected as proof of the lesson work. It was found out that by using extensive reading and young adult novels in English lessons, students felt more open to reading and enjoying the overall reading process. Based on the students’ feedback, lesson work, it was concluded that the use of extensive reading and young adult novels in English lessons open new opportunities not only in the learning process, but also in the interests outside the school.
